Tell me a little about yourself and your background?
My names Regina Booker, I’m 24 years old and I’m from Maryland. I have played many of sports over the years but dance has always been my ground. I have danced for 21 years now and I don’t regret a single day! I work at a local fitness gym and teach fitness classes there. I also am a Dance and Gymnastics instructor at Jessica’s Creations. I’m also an IFBB Fitness Pro and to top it off, I am the creator of Toxic Twist Crew (a USASF Worlds all-star dance team) so you could say I live a pretty active lifestyle! I’ve won many National Champion Titles and finally won my Pro Card in 2017!
What aspect of fitness do you enjoy the most?
I can’t lie, I LOVE COMPETING! But I’ve had a competition background my entire life so that could be why. But other than that, I love challenging my body and mind to tasks I’ve never accomplished before. It teaches me dedication and shows others that nothing is impossible! I also love that I’m able to motivate others to live healthy and become their best self! With me accomplishing so much, my friends say it motivates them to push harder towards their goals! I love it!
How long have you been into fitness?
I started lifting in 2014 on New Year’s Day and since then I fell in love! I’ve always been an athlete playing sports such as basketball, softball, dance, all-star cheerleading, and more but I never lifted weights.
How did you get into fitness?
It’s a funny story actually! I made a bet on New Years that I could get more jacked and shredded than a dance team member of mine…lol ( Like I said I’ve always been a competitive person ). He was all for it so I got a gym membership and all thanks to him I have found a new passion! Since then I’ve competed in bodybuilding shows and won my pro card in 2017!
What was a turning point for you to take it seriously?
I think the turning point was after I went to the Arnold Sports Festival with my dance team for the first time. I have no idea about competing really and I remember seeing Oksana Grishina and Bethany Wagner. I was so entertained with their fitness routines that it made me want to do it! I’ve always competed like I said in solo dance competitions but this was something different. You have to challenge not only your mind with dance and gymnastics but you also have to make sure your body is in tip top shape! HOW COOL! So that was for sure my turning point to dial in and compete.
How has fitness impacted your life?
It honestly has changed how I look at my body. No one will ever be shredded year round like you see on Instagram. Some people don’t understand that. My outlook on it is I love myself for who I am and when I’m lean I feel I have reached my full potential but it doesn’t change who I am. Being stage lean is what is necessary for me because I compete but I’m not stage lean year round. It also has taught me that when I eat healthy I actually feel so much better. It’s crazy to think how eating healthy can affect your mood and your energy levels! I feel great and I look great too! It helps me perform better for my fitness routines as well!
What words of advice or encouragement would you like to give to someone who is just starting out or would like to start but doesn’t know where to begin?
Take it slow, one day at a time and don’t give up! It takes time to see progress but once you do you won’t want to stop! Also never compare your day 1 to someone’s day 400 because that will just cause you to be negative and give up!
