Tell me a little about yourself and your background?
Hey, I’m Jeremy and I live on the east coast of Canada. I work several different jobs mainly because I like to stay busy. My full time job is working with high risk youth. I am also a volunteer firefighter. Growing up, I had an issue with following simple rules and staying out of trouble. My wife and I have are huge animal lovers with 2 dogs and 3 cats, all rescued, and are expecting our first child this summer.
What aspect of fitness do you enjoy the most?
For me, I love seeing hard work paying off; watching a transformation happening including my own. That ties with the community aspect of fitness. Seeing so many people from all walks of live coming together to help one another improve in their fitness journey.
How long have you been into fitness?
I have always dabbled into fitness but have been doing it steady since 2012/13.
How did you get into fitness?
Mostly through friends hassling me to go to the gym with them.
What was a turning point for you to take it seriously?
In 2012/13 I was weighing in at about 270. I was extremely unhappy with my appearance and how I felt. A couple of really good friends of mine pushed me to make a change. One of them, who was the best man in my wedding, got up every morning at 5:30am to go to the gym with me. I would pick him up in exchange for breakfast. At first I wasn’t sure, but as I seen changes I became hooked.
How has fitness impacted your life?
Through fitness, I adopted a sense of discipline that I never had before. I quit smoking cigarettes and abusing alcohol. Although I did gain some weight back after getting married, my wife and I are expecting a child in the summer which is my drive now.
What words of advice or encouragement would you like to give to someone who is just starting out or would like to start but doesn’t know where to begin?
Just start. If you keep putting it off, you’ll never start. Don’t be afraid to seek help, either from others at your local gym or through social media. There are so many people out there that love to help others become the best person they can be. Everyone needs a hand from time to time and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone starts somewhere.
