Tell me a little about yourself and your background?
My name is Michela, I’m 30 years old, and I’m Italian. My path began from dance, after high school, I moved to Milan from my little city, Ravenna, I studying in academy and after, I worked as a dancer for most of my life, traveling a lot, dancing on TV shows, theaters and cruise ship.
After years around the world, I decided to stop myself in a place that I could call home, so I choose Rome, and I continued my formation in the fitness world, taking certifications as Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor, and right now, I’m studying for the Yoga Teacher Training.
What aspect of fitness do you enjoy the most?
I like teach to be aware about our body. I really think that this is the most important thing to learn, if you know your body, if you really feel your body moving, every exercise it’s gonna be more effective. So, even when I worked with children, I try to explain what happens into our body and our mind when we’re moving.
How long have you been into fitness?
My mom was a fitness instructor, so since I was child, I went with her to her classes, and I waited drawing with my brother in the changing room or in the fitness room. So, I think I have been always in the fitness life.
How did you get into fitness?
Like I said, my mom introduced me into this amazing world, so after taking my certification as dance teacher, I decided to continue my formation trying to figure it out more about body.
What was a turning point for you to take it seriously?
After years and years in dance world, I was really tired about competition and I was tired to be what the people wanted from me. The show is like this, you have to be the right person in the right place, you need to play a character, a role in a show, and often, you could be too tall, too blonde, too everything or not enough for that part. So, I found in fitness my own world, a place where I could be just myself, where I could create my classes in the way I liked. Fitness became my home when I decided to be the best version of myself, not what the people expected from me.
How has fitness impacted your life?
Fitness made me free to be more creative, to take care to the people, to guide them to their goals, and specially, make their life a little bit better than before. This is the most important aspect of my life now. I have the privilege to make other lives better, and this has no price.
What words of advice or encouragement would you like to give to someone who is just starting out or would like to start but doesn’t know where to begin?
Don’t rush, take your time. So many times I saw people began like super active, working out every day like crazy, without thinking what they were doing, just to burn and back in shape as fast as they could.
Sport has to become a lifestyle, a way to think, and you have to take your own time to explore your body, your limits, and your possibility.
Last advise, use your mind, always, when you are training, just be in that moment, in your body, in your muscles, don’t run away with your thinks, you are your thinks, so make them productive, a make them present.
