Lindsey44388-1.jpgTell me a little about yourself and your background?

I grew up in the tiny little town (maybe city) of Franklin, New Hampshire. Anyone would have guessed I’d like a typical life but I consciously chose a less common route – moving to Los Angeles, forgetting my degree in civil engineering and going all in on my vision within the fitness and health space. It wasn’t a simple snap of my fingers to make a shift like that – it took me seeing that I could transform my own body first to even consider leaving my “easy” route, which I will explain.

What aspect of fitness do you enjoy the most?

What I love about fitness isn’t a particular type of exercise, diet, or routine, it’s the ability to FEEL CONFIDENT which is something I really focus on with my clients. When you feel strong and powerful in a gym setting, that sense of confidence starts to spill over into every aspect of your life – this is what, I believe, allowed me to make sure a drastic leap.

How long have you been into fitness and how did you get into it?

I was always into sports and working out in high school but despite my efforts, I never got the body I desired deep down from my activities. So I guess you could say my fitness journey began in July of 2015 when I went to my first bodybuilding competition – it so happened to be my boyfriend’s competition who I had only went on a couple dates with at the time, but am still with today. To be able to see REAL people – not models – having the figure I so desperately wanted lit a fire in me that never went out. If they could do it, so could I. I just had to figure out how. Obviously what I was doing had to be wrong and it was SO incredibly frustrating. I tried restricting calories, doing tons of cardio of every kind I could possibly think of. I tried lifting, i.e. doing leg and ab machines as most people do, right? But it didn’t equate to that body and confidence I wanted.

What was a turning point for you to take it seriously?

My turning point was about a month after the competition – I was SO determined to figure out what I was doing wrong and I kept asking Brian (my boyfriend) what to do, which in my head equated to what those women did. He said something so simple in response to my cries of poor me, my body doesn’t work, I tried everything, etc., – “Do you eat fruit?” And that was my AHA moment. “OH THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS I’M EATING THAT I’M NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT.” From there I decided I would start meal prepping and REALLY tracking my macros on MyFitnessPal. I looked in the mirror and took my “initial” photos and I very vividly remember them because in my head I said, “You will never look like this again.”

How has fitness impacted your life?

Fitness has quite literally impacted every single area of my life. About one year after the story above, I was down about 40lbs and was absolutely ripped. I had my dream body and my confidence was through the roof. I didn’t feel cocky, just proud that I DID THAT. I took control of something that felt SO out of my control for my entire life. I even started stepping on stage and showcasing my physique in the bikini division of the NPC and actually competed Nationally this past November. I started stepping into leadership roles in college, I started GIVING BACK my knowledge that I had learned. Brian convinced me to personally train a few clients each semester to see if I liked it and I did! After one semester of training, I launched RagoFIT – my online coaching business. I took everything I had learned for myself and from my PT clients and recreated it in an online program where I would develop a personal relationship with those I worked with while getting them to their goals. That business became my full time job once I graduated with my civil engineering degree and I was thrilled to take on the challenge. From there, I moved, with Brian to Los Angeles where we now train at The Mecca – Gold’s Gym in Venice. This may seem like the fairy tale ending, but it’s just the beginning for me. I plan to build a massive brand with confidence, positivity, mental health, and physical health at the forefront alongside Brian. I also plan to become an IFBB pro next year within the bikini division. Fitness has allowed me to CREATE my life.
